First topic message reminder :

well here we go...

we went to immigration this morning, with our translater.

and as you read so many conflicting stories on this subject we decidecd to take only the basics...passports , eh 1111 cards, birth certs for the kids, bank statements...proof of address...ie bills.

None of this was good enough for them!!!!

this is what they wanted.

1) chidrens birth certs, translanslted and notorised....well we had them translated but not notorised.

2)passports for all 5 of us , with multiple copies.

3)EH1111 cards,with multiple copies.

4)a certificate from our bank to say we can support our selves...cost was 30 leva per statement.

5)our property details, and the origional notorty documents....in multiple

6) a declaration from us as parents that we will provide for & look after our children...again in multiple copies and notorised.

well we managed to get this all done in one day...lol.

but by the time we had finnished doing all of this, the immigration office had closed for the BG bank holiday of liberation day so its back to the office first thing on thursday morning

total cost so far.

284 leva

to hire the translater & have her come with us plus translate the (3) kids birth certs plus most of the above( which also is required for the educational directer) another story...yet to come.

2.50 leva

forms from immigration.

39.60 leva

to have everything notorised.

well thats about it untill thursday night...i will update you all on thursday.

NOTHING IS QUICK OR SIMPLE HERE...or cheap...

Sounds horribly familiar, you will get there eventually honest!!! We went through the same thing last year and yes it's more complicated when you have children. We took a chance and wrote our own letter in Bulgarian saying we would support our son, took it to Bourgas and of course were turned away. Just like you they told us it had to be notorised (even though it was already in Bulgarian). We decided to take a chance and went back with it not notorised and they accepted it the second time, think it depends on who you see on the day. Good luck on Friday.

You will get it sorted

Just try and keep your temper. It is one thing that I have learnt here. Shouting and screaming gets you no where. The Bulgarians just pretend not to understand. Those that could speak perfect English suddenly cannot speak a word.

Its just red tape and they are making thier mark

Chill

Tony

hi guys,

thanks for the kind words...

well its sorted...we all now have our visas, valid for five years.

just another snippet of info gleaned today , all bulgarian id cards are being renewed as of the 31st of march.....if you have a long stay card dont panic you can choose if you want to upgrade it to one with a picture, if not it will still be valid untill its expiry date.

bobski.

Well done Bob a lesson for all

Your totally right varnagirl one of the big problems in Bulgaria is that there isn't any standard as far as bureaucracy is concerned and as you say it will differ from one region to another thus making it very confusing for all
