Bulgaria's Sunny Beach Resort to Get Rid of Illegal Kiosks

The Managing Board of the Bulgarian Black Sea Sunny Beach resort has announced it will begin taking down illegal commercial outlets.

"
Unattractive commercial buildings have been given for rent for years, without having the necessary documents and permits. At the same time, the kiosks have been creating a bad image of the resort,"
Zlatko Dimitrov, Head of the Sunny Beach resort, said.

He has explained that many of the illegal sites had been built on land, owned by hotel owners from the resort.

In Dimitrov's words, despite the endless inspections by the Managing Board of Sunny Beach, the majority of the traders had occupied the sidewalks by placing tents and stands with goods, making the side walks in the resort smaller every year.

The management of the holding has reached the solution to take down the illegal sites after it had received a number of complaints from businesses, tour operators and guests of the resort.

The municipality of Nessebar has already filed about 300 conclusive acts for illegal constructions. The orders for removing of temporary outlets are about 130 and they have all been appealed in court.

The municipality has also sent 70 letters to owners of illegal sites to ask them to voluntarily remove them in a period of 14 days.

The forced removal of illegal constructions is expected to begin mid-October. It would be performed by employees of the Nessebar municipality. Police officers would supervise and help in case owners refuse to remove their outlets.

The idea of the Managing Board of Sunny Beach is to have commercial outlets that follow a certain standard and meet the EU requirements.

At the moment, the management is preparing a new scheme for temporary sites, in which hotels and land owners could participate.
