Hi Guys

Thanks a million Ash pictures are great, there are some more on the website Please visit the website, have a good look round, would be obliged if you would also sign the Guestbook too, Thanks

Well now things are happening here again. Firstly my friend at Gap has contacted me again and said she has 50 to 70 bags of clothes for us yippee!!!! :hello2: This is brilliant news, now we can help the Woman's Refuge too.

Secondly, I have written to all the local schools in Silistra to ask if they would help us fill a normal size cardboard box with good for one of the Orphanages, the Refuge Centre, the Home for the Elderly or an establishment that they know of themselves. So far I have 4 schools who will participate.

This is a real break through and we are just delighted. It's is a very small task and if every child or even half the children bring one small item of toiletries, clothing, toys, games books etc into school, the box would be filled in no time. Then they will let me or the organisation who will collect in time for Christmas Eve. The children will feel great knowing they helped others who are in desperate need, also this will bring awareness to the needs of these establishments and perhaps they can do this on a regular basis, who knows? maybe for Easter and Christmas. For every school that participates I will name them on our website.

This really is such a simple idea that anyone can do it - I have written to the shops and the business in Silistra also, not heard anything yet mind, but I will keep trying. 👍 We have made friends with various other establishments and again there is no reason why they cannot help us do this so I have asked for their help too , again awaiting a reply. Even you guys could organise something like this in your own area. I see Villyman and his Mayor friend has had a good response from their visit to our Garden Party at the Silistra Orphanage. The Mayor collected some clothing and ask Villyman to accompany him to the local Orphanage where they live so he could give them the clothing. :hello2: I explained my idea to Villyman and he will see if they can do the same in their area too. So some good positive feedback.

Thirdly we are going into the supermarket bag packing again in Dec, this should generate funding for the new floors and internal doors for the Orphanage.

Fourthly: My work has agreed we can hold a booksale in the main Reception area, plus they will provide us with 200 books free. Again, funds will go towards the new floors/doors. Of course the website is still open for anyone who would like to make contributions - we are always really glad to accept donations.

I left 3 crates of books with Bulgariabill and Sue has now started a swap shop and charges a small fee they have now raised around 25leva - so well done guys!! you are doing brilliantly. John & Linda of UK Foods Warehouse also have a crate of books which they are trying to get rid of for us too, so by Sept, if all goes well should have a little bit more in the pot.

Mr Oddy has started his Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme last Friday - He was there for 3.5 hours, the poor love was shattered when he got home. He slepted for 2 hours :love4: He still has trouble with his breathing, but I understand this programme will help him. Unfortunatly he was completely worn out the next day too :tongue3:- so I guess it's a matter of taking it slowly. Other than that things are going well. I will be contacting all my suppliers again in the new year - give them a little break from me now :drunken_smilie: :laughing9: We will also be on the look out for someone to transport goods for us therefore, I will have to write to the haulage companies again. if you know of anyone who might help us, please let me know. We will also be looking our for blankets and linen for the Home for the Elderly, so will start searching in the new year.

Lastly: Bgscot came down to visit us this weekend, Bless him he brought 100's of CD's for our shoeboxes next year and 16 packed of disposables nappies and some footwear too. He is such a lovely chap - thanks a million times over, you are a little darling :love10:

So that is it for now - I will keep you updated on our progress, but please do remember to check the website from time to time.

Oddy :

Hi Bernie this is a great idea are you going to add any pics of Doogle or his chart??

Great Idea! Can we join in? Can we have more than one guess?

I could send a few £ via PayPal and a list of destinations if you think this will work 'online'.

By the way, how 'broad' are the destinations? For instance, if I said USA and he went to Florida would that count, or if I said Spain and it was Majorca, same thing?

Or, maybe easier, select a 'resort' or 'city' or 'island' instead?

Ha ha, I've probably just confused the issue entirely! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Chris

Just to reiterate what Chris has said how does it work

Hi Guys

FUNDRAISING IDEA FOR Silistra Orphange Bulgaira:
Win Doogle if you guess where he is going on Hols

Thanks for the interest: the idea is to win Doogle if you pick his holiday destination. We have made up a chart wiith various countries on, what you have to do is guess which country Doogle has choosen. The charge for guessing is 50P a guess, yes, you can guess as many as you like, but each guess cost you 50P. You need to write you name and tel no in the country you think he would like best.

When all the boxes care completed we can than open the envelope Doogle has with him, which hs his destination inside and the person who has picked that destination, will win Doogle [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] He would be picked up or posted. If this is something we can do on the forum, we can add more countries to the list.

PostSubject: New Project for 2010 for Silistra Orphanage   Sat Dec 05, 2009 11:46 am

Hi Guys

Things have been a little slow this month - we have had a few small bootsales but really only made the entrance fees back so nothing much there.

Donations: again this area is very quiet although we have had £10 donation, thank you so much to the donor, we really appreciate it.

We have had a call from Gap and they have more goods for us. This is wonderful news!!!!!! Thank you so much, we can now share these goods with both Orphanages and the Refuge Centre. I will contact Dave for the boxes and Captain Cuttworth at the TA to help with storage.

The other wonderful news is after the Evening Telegraph's article in Oct 09 we had a call from a feature writer company and they have asked if they can do a story on us, naturally I said yes. They will pay a fee for this and which we will donate the whole amount to the Orphanage fund for the new flooring, the internal doors. Although it also looks like we will be transporting goods so we will need transport costs too, unless anyone will donate transport of course, you just never know, we will be keeping our fingers crossed. Once the article is published, I will put the link on here and also when we get the cheque re the 'fee' I will also post that on our website. This will be a good start to the 2010 project.

We also have supermarket bag packing on 12th Dec. This was a great success last time so hoping all goes well this time too. We still need a few volunteers if you have a spare hour or two please contact us. We have made up little cards to hand out so people will get to know of our cause and perhaps help with donations in due course.

We were due to have a book stall at my place of work, but that has been deferred until January now - so we still have that to look forward to. I am sure our Freecycle friends will gladly donate good quality books to us, once I make the appeal for books.

I will be contacting all the people who has already helped this year and ask if they would help again for the new project in 2010.

We will hopefully be doing the shoeboxes for 2010 with help from the Local Group Leaders. I will update in due course. Just heard from Scooby on here, here daughter Kay started a project in the summer for shoeboxes for us but with the holidays realised they could not finish before we left in Sept however, they have now finished around 15 shoeboxes now all we have to do is get them transported from Bradford to Peterborough - I am working on that!

Ashley has agreed that we can send Doogle our little travelling clown on his hols and we are currently making a bigger chart with countires on for him to visit. We will let you know the outcome shortly.

Sept seems a long way off, but it is surprising how quickly it comes around. So, we have lots to do as always if you can help in any way please email us.

Thank you all for your support to date you have been just brilliant!! Remember to keep checking the website for updates. Of course you can make donation via your own Paypal using [email:54kx4f0m]bulgarianorphanage@hotmail.
co.
uk[/email:54kx4f0m] and if you click the 'GIFT' than no fees will be taken. Or you can donate direct through the website.

Thank you again, we look forward to hearing from you if you can help us in any way.

PostSubject: New Project for 2010 for Silistra Orphanage   Wed Jan 13, 2010 7:09 pm

Hi Guys

Well we are into 2010 now and things are beginning to happen. We have finally sorted, packed and labelled the clothing from Gap - With what was collected and various other donations we now have 50 boxes of clothing. 4 other boxes of hats, scarfs, socks and tights and some accessories which we will use to help fill the shoeboxes for the 100+ children in the Dimcho.

We cannot fill shoeboxes for every establishment so we decided that we would take a few large boxes of small toys to the children in the Baby Orphanages, The Womans Refuge and poss a boxes of toiletries etc We will do a box for The Home for the Elderly too. But I will be visiting the schools in Sept and will try to get them involved again this year.

We have a new project on the go too - If I can get the donors we will supply knitting wool and needles to the home for the Elderly and they in turn will knit garments, etc for the childern in the Orphanages and other establishments. So hopefully this will give the Elderly an interest. I don't know what to do yet for the men although, I have written to Airfix models to see if they would donated some ex stock, you never know, worth a try. I still have my thinking hat on, if you have any simple ideas please do let me know.

Keep your fingers crossed we get some wool donated, have done 100's of email now I am onto the footwear emails - It never stops!!!!!!!!!!! and to think we only started off with a few things in a bag!

Next things is planning the Garden Party for Sept. I am hoping UK Foods Warehousing will offer help again this year. John and Linda were fantastic last year. They donated all the food and cooked it too bless him, he asked people to make a donation and that donation was given to us to give to the Director. He even donated all the soft drinks too. What a wonderful couple.

Right I have chicks to knit now - somthing else I am thinking of for Easter Knit little chicks and put a small egg inside, just trying it out first.

so much for your kind words You are little stars [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Well I started my little chick and I was very excited about it But soon I realised my little chick was more like a turkey so I though I would use her as the Mummy. She has no beak yet I did give her eyes and I tied a nice little ribbon around her neck.

Then I show her to Dougie - Dougie said 'it's not Holloween you know' Need I say more. Actually she is a lot scary so perhaps I need more practice

Hi Bernie that's incredible, looking at some of the donations your getting your going to need and armed escort to Bulgaria seriously though when you start to look at whats being given it all adds up to a valuable cargo so whoever takes it over to Bulgaria will need some serious vetting unless it's someone you know, anyway once again you 2 you are both keep it up and lets see what we can all do to help these dreams come true, which reminds me how is Doogle
