[align=center:jal3unig][size=150:jal3unig]THE FINAL INSPECTION

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

'
Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you ?
Have you always turned the other cheek ?
To My Church have you been true?'

The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
'
No, Lord, I guess I ain'
t.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can'
t always be a saint.

I'
ve had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I'
ve been violent,
Because the world is rough.

But, I never took a penny,
That wasn'
t mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of hours,
without pay,and my family still to keep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I'
ve wept unmanly tears.

I know I don'
t deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.

If you'
ve a place for me here, Lord,
It needn'
t be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don'
t, I'
ll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

'
Step forward now, you soldier,
You'
ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven'
s streets,
You'
ve done your time in Hell.'

I see that FIFA are refusing to let the English Football team wear a poppy on their shirts on Saturday, because they fear that it will offend the Germans
This is crazy, what is the world coming to. Political correctness, I detest it :: [size=150:2f9f3i7d]Wear your Poppy with pride

Did he say why he wanted you to remove it, Varnagirl? My late dad fought in WW2 and gave up his
youth for his country. People who are "
politically correct"
make me mad!

I expect it was because the little button in the middle of the poppy plus the wire would have set all the alarm bells ringing, pathetic and

Good posting Tony - without the dedication and human lose of life in both the World Wars and of course our troops who are now posted all over the world Britain would be a different place to live. Our forefathers were told that 'Britain would be a place fit for heroes"
after WWII, nothing could have been further from the truth.

Fifa Lifts England Team Poppies Ban
News Fifa U-Turn On England Team Poppy Ban

7:13pm UK, Wednesday November 09, 2011

Fifa has climbed down over its decision to ban the England football team from wearing remembrance poppies and will now allow players to display them.
Pressure from the Duke of Cambridge and Prime Minister David Cameron helped persuade football's international governing body to reverse its ruling.

Prince William penned a strongly-worded note privately to Fifa expressing his dismay at the move.

Mr Cameron also wrote to the organisation, assuring it that there were "
no political connotations whatsoever"
associated with the poppies.
