First topic message reminder :

Hi Guys

Well I have managed to get a whole 3 weeks holiday time off at work for October g I did try for Sept but not possible. I also cleared the Garden Party date for Sat 6th Oct  We look forward to seeing you there this year.

I am in the process of sorting out the long to do list and will tick off accordingly
The main one is covered by Kevin Pescott Fine Meats as he has already confirmed he will be supplying all the meat for the BBQ which, of course is just fantastic and a brilliant start.

I am looking forward to all the planning again if you have any ideas do let me know. <!-- sChat -->c<!-- sChat -->

Thanks a million.

Oddy

There is not much I can add to the comprehensive report above except to say that when I pulled up outside the Orphanage at the same time as you Mick and saw the police at your car I thought you were being arrested. You must have felt important to get VIP treatment

I can't confirm the final total of money collected, that is for Berni to do on her return but I think it is in excess of 3000leva g

Haha Willowsend - yes we felt very special - upto the point they told us to drop our weapons , lay on the floor and "
spread-em"
!!!

Only joking, yes, we felt very special - Tom spoke to them as best as he could in his best Bulgarian but there were confused looks but as soon as he mentioned the "
little children"
of the Orphanage, the instructions were to just follow them - To the Police of Silistra, well done and a big T

Hope you enjoyed the day as much as us - truly opened our eyes

It was a lovely afternoon for us, unfortunately we arrived later than we hoped for.
We missed the children performing which we were so looking forward to see, but did see some of the gifts being handed out to all the awaiting quiet children. One little girl had been given a pair of shiny maroon trainers and she couldn't wait to try them on, her face was a picture. A little boy was so pleased with his aeroplane he was showing all the other boys with such a beam it melted your heart.
It was well worth the long journey for us. Meeting Berni and Dougie was a first for us, such a lovely couple. All the helpers were enjoying their part of the day, well done to you all. It was a day of joy and happiness.
Mick well Jock as you call him is my Eric. He is not a scot either LOL
Would you believe he is 71 years old and still can blow those pipes!!!!
I am very proud of him, and he was more than happy to play even in the heat.
So well done everyone.

You say, Quote:- He is not a Scot either LOL. Did anybody investigate to find that out
Even if Eric had not played his bagpipes, it was worth him just being there in his Black Watch attire. Lot's of people wanted Photo's taken with him and Stilion (Orphanage Director) said he has never seen or heard any thing like it before. Well done Eric

After that horrible drive to Burgas Airport and a 45minute delay for take off I arrived home in the early hours of this morning. Today I have had a quick look at the photo's and I have to say that they certainly depict a happy atmosphere. I have compared them with three years ago and there is a vast difference in the appearance and attitude of the children. Three years ago the children looked a bit nervous and lacking in confidence and not sure what was going on, but last Saturday it was a different ball game with loads of ability and confidence, and all that is down to Mother Superior and her band of helpers here in the UK and in Bulgaria ::
Berni will be getting the photo's in due course g

Hi Itchyfeet

Was unaware that the "
Jock"
was your Eric - just for the record, I knew he wasn't Scottish but I didn't know his name so I just referred to him as Jock - oops!!!

As for his age - bloomin eck - he still got a good pair of lungs on him to squeeze those old pipes.
Pleasure to listen to him - T

What a marvellous post willow - wonderful that the children have grown in confidence over the past three years. I am sure that this has been made possible by Berni otherwise known as Mother Superior, she has done a wonderful job and given a lot of her time and that is the most precious thing you can given anyone. Hi Guys

Well, we - (myself-being Mick, Bev, Tom &
Dot) all ventured to Silistra for the garden Party on Saturday and are really glad we made the decision to do so.
This was our first time visiting the Orphanage so didn't really know what to expect. On the day, we met some lovely, kind and friendly people in Silistra. This kindness started with a Police escort by the local bobbies who said "
follow them"
when we asked for directions from the town centre after our directions didn't tally with Bernie's directions!!!! On our arrival at the Orphanage we were greeted by both Bernie and Dougie - two really remarkable people who it is apparent to see give so much of their time and effort to the Orphanage and the children - hats off to you two - it was a pleasure to meet you both

We arrived and straight away it was plain to see that many people had donated their time and a lot more to make this day the success it turned out to be. We walked into the grounds where book stalls, kids painting, adopt a teddy bear, guess how many sweets in a jar (I was robbed), cake stalls, drinks stalls and various others were in full swing - a pleasure to see.
Throughout the day, we purchased various items from the stalls, bought tickets for the raffles and talked to many different people.
We purchased drinks and cakes for some of the children and it was a pleasure to talk to some of them (not that they understood), apart from some broken words and sign language.
The children of the Orphanage put on a great display of singing, dancing and other acts with the aid of a few others and it was very enjoyable to watch there faces as they participated.
We were also entertained to "
Jock"
the bag pipes player who played a few well known songs and he was watched by some of the children who looked on intrigued - was it the pipes or those hairy legs in a skirt???

At lunchtime, we were supplied with a bbq style meal to purchase and once again, hats off to everybody involved in the food. The burgers and sausages (some said were deer, some said ostrich) - whichever, they were bloomin tasty!!!! Big round of applause as I say, the food was excellent and the staff the same

In the afternoon, one of the highlights was watching Bernie &
Dougie giving out to the Children (of various ages) the many gifts, toys, clothes, shoes, etc, to the children. Me personally thought this would be like a rugby scrum at Twickenham, how wrong I was - the children reacted brilliantly just taking things and you could see the joy and appreciation on their faces - brilliant to see and witness!!!

Later on there was the raffle of many things to all who had bought tickets - (great items to be won by the way) - I was robbed again.!!!
After that there was an auction of some really good donated items as well - Tom will remember that with fondness (Big Kid) - Dot has now become an X-Box Widow!!!!

One of the last things we saw was Dougie and Bernie giving out - (throwing), many, many, small wrapped "
personal gifts"
to the children, haha - now this was like a scrum at Twickenham - but all done in good fun. The children who had the baggiest t-shirts on were glad of their choice of clothing for the day - they could carry the most items in their big t-shirts!!!

In brief, Bernie &
Dougie, you are two very special people and we thoroughly enjoyed our day
To yourselves and all the others involved, a BIG WELL DONE

We left, having taken many thoughts and memories for the day - a big Thank You.

Best wishes,
Tom &
Dot, Mick &
Bev
(Lion Property Maintenance &
Services - Sunny Beach)

See you in 2013

Thank you Blink - wondering who this special lady is now

Right I still have no had the time to do the report, as you know I work full time too but I promise I will get round to it soon. Once I get Willow's photos I can work with them. We have been invited to the Bulgarian Embassy on Sat 10th to the Society's Diamond Jubilee. There will be singing and dancing from Bulgarian and Irish groups and speeches from a few professors along with live music and food. The idea is to for British Bulgarian Society to introduce us to the members and get our work know and perhaps obtain more sponsors to supply us with goods. So fingers crossed.

The best news of all is we did fab at the Garden Party and raised a massive 4129lev this included the funds Christine and Lester had been doing bootsales and donated over 1050leve. Then there was the funds from The Secret Tea Room event early in the year raised 641lev along with the SunnyBeachGroup facebook group domino competition. Then we also brought over the funds already donated toward the bunk beds and added that to the total so all in all we raised a massive 6059lev towards the bunk beds. I have only calculated the funds collected although some people have said they will sponsor a bed but we cannot add this until we have the funds. So we are almost there we have enough to buy the first 20 sets of beds. Fab eh!!!! We have few bag packing sessions in Nov and a Christmas Fayre at my place of work so hopefully this will help also The secret Garden tea rooms are holding a xmas event in BG and if the sponsors here on ourbulgairaforum.com re sponsor us again for next year hopefully we will be able to get the beds sooner than expected. Thanks to everyone who has help us this year we have had a fantastic year.

The Silistra Garden Party: 2012

Well here we are again another year has gone by our 4th Garden Party and again it was a great success
thanks to all those wonderful helpers and supports alike. Thanks to Eric (itchyfeet) our piper who did us proud on his bagpipes. You all did a fantastic Job. Special thanks to our photographer Bryan (Willowsend) who flew from the UK to be with us and took some wonderful photos which you will find on the website below. see photos here: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] ... rty%202012

We did not have as many people there this year, I guess this was due to the end of the holiday season, but we
still raised a fantastic amount of funds from all the items for sale. Plus earlier in the year Joanne, Nigel
Irene &
Dave did a fundraiser via the Secret Garden Tea Room. They did high teas and raised 641lev a
fantastic amount, thank you all you did great!. They will be doing a Xmas Fayre fundraiser on Nov 24th in
Pomoshtitsa nr Popovo, again they will make another donation to the Silistra Orphanage bunk bed appeal.
Thanks a million times over for your ongoing support.

Christine &
Lester Griffin had been doing bootsales and knitting throughout the year. They raised over
1000lev, which is just an amazing amount. Lester and our friend Hugh here in the UK made 2 set of stocks for
us and Lester manned them throughout the day at the Garden Party – The children had not seen anything
like this before and love them. Thank you so much you are all wonderful. Special thanks to all our helpers
Sue and Dave, Sue &
Arthur, Ade, Christine &
Lester, Nellie and the girls from the 365 Volunteer
Club, Joanne and Nigel, Bill &
Sue and especially Margaret who flew from Switzerland to be with us. Also Stilian, all the children and the staff at the Dimcho, who once again, did a fantastic job. They all pulled together and filled in where we needed them. Thanks to the
Mayor of Silistra who sent the group of children and the man on the flute to entertain us and they were
amazing. Thank you also to Gurp for their DJ shame he had to leave early. We could not have done this without all our volunteers thank
you all very much you are an amazing group of people.

We had some wonderful stalls at the Garden Party and some fantastic raffle and auction prizes – everyone
had a great time. We had Ivelina and Christian from BNTV who filmed The Dimcho Garden Party and
interview many of our guests. They also filmed our 3rd Orphanage in Silsitra Malek Preslavetz, where there are 16
children there and this is our 2nd year of bringing them boxes of clothes, shoes, toys, trampoline, swimming
pool, 2 bikes 20 hand knitted blankets and most important the Christmas Shoeboxes. We are hoping that
the tv publicity will bring more help and awareness to the orphanages in Bulgaria so fingers crossed.

Thank to ‘Pescott’s Foods’ for donating the massive amount of burgers and sausages they were great.
Kevin and Bev also drive the 5 hours to be with us. Thanks a million to Bev for spending her afternoon
helping our staff to cook them. Here is a quote from one of our guests Mick ‘ At lunchtime, we were supplied
with a bbq style meal to purchase and once again, hats off to everybody involved in the food. The burgers and
sausages (some said were deer, some said ostrich) - whichever, they were bloomin tasty!!!! Big round of applause
as I say, the food was excellent and the staff the same’ Thanks again Kevin for you support again this year. It
was a pleasure to meet you both. Thanks Mick really appreciate that.

As you know one of our projects was to raise fund for bunk beds for the Dimcho – This was a project we
hoped to complete by August 2013 however, due to the support we have had from the Garden Party, the
fantastic people on the The Facebook Sunny Beach Group, The Secret Tea Room. LaPa Bar and various
supporters like Steve W. Sara C , Christine and Lester, Michael Brown, Ellen and Martha Ladd 2 wonderful girls age 9 and
12 who donated their own funds to buy a bed. Our friends in Belgium their daughter an 11 year old girl Tyra Derdin also
bought a bed. Earlier in the year Tyra and her mum flew from Belgium with two large bags of goodies for the children in Silsitra. Pat, Helen and members of the Sunny Beach Group all went to the Hotel Delta to meet the children, Quest Magazine owner Darren, Denise and the girls planned a fun afternoon for the children at the hotel. They all had a fab time thank you so much. We hope to have enough funds to buy all the beds before Christmas. We have few bag packing sessions and a Christmas Fayre at my place of work, so hopefully this will give us the outstanding balance to purchase the remaining 9 beds.

Thanks again to everyone who has helped and supported us again this year and special thanks Chris and Bill for all their hard work on the website and helping with all sorts of tech stuff throughout the year. They have both been just amazing. g
