PostSubject: Lying!   Fri May 18, 2012 9:12 am

First topic message reminder :

I hate liars. It seems it is endemic nowadays, so much so, that people lie without realising it! Very often during conversation some very ordinary comments are found out to be untrue because as the saying goes: 'you have to have a good memory to be a liar'. I don't usually mention that the original story was false because I can't stand the embarrasment of listening to people wriggle out of it. Life is normally too short to bother about it anyway but it leads on to all kinds of other bigger lies which occur in life especially in property buying in Bulgaria. Need I say more? So many instances which could also be interpreted as 'corruption' in extreme situations. However, my grouse is that it seems now that the whole world lies about everything except me! I am quite proud of that. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

You're welcome oldun, there'll always be liars, you only have to watch the news, so leave them to it and let's move on.

What is the truth worth? In a time where lying has become an acceptable art, the lines between truth and error have been blurred. Our politicians do it, our teachers do it, our religious leaders do it, and even our children do it. It is difficult to hold anyone to a standard higher than the one we live by. Where does it end? I always think when I'm lied to, “I am not upset that you lied to me, but that from now on I cannot believe you.” We have come to understand that the consequences of a lie have touched us all in negative ways. In fact, if we could, we would go back and un-do those situations. The truth of the matter is, you cannot un-tell a lie.

:Good post:nu2bg. I agree which is why the lying I have experienced cannot be undone and the people will never be trusted or accepted as a friend. There is no way back no matter if I have forgiven and ignored. Lying touches a life and, whilst some lies are unimportant in the bigger scheme of things, some do so much damage that life is spoilt for all concerned, even the liars.
I truly wish I had never had the misfortune to meet some folks especially at such an advanced age, but that's life and I am moving on. I hope those who blithely say to ignore will never have the same bitter experience. The plotting, wicked poison pen letter and physical violence to my partner maybe some way to explaining what I am saying and the depth of my feelings on this matter which probably shouldn't be aired here but sometimes helps to write things down.

Very wise words Jane and oh so true, unfortunately it does start very early in life and for some children it's hard to know what is the truth and what is lies when they have always respected the words of their parent teachers ect.

I suspect other people lie about being busy pretty frequently, it's a handy excuse not to return an e-mail or phone call or do annoying favors for people. And people usually can't argue or take you to the task on that without looking like a jerk. I've have claimed to be busy to get out of things in the past. I rarely say it now, but I did say it frequently when my friends would call me and ask if I wanted to go somewhere. I was like no I'm busy doing this or that etc. I did it because other things in my life were more important than socializing at the time. That Said I do get it from a lot of people. I call them and they are sorry busy today, or I'm busy this weekend ''MAYBE'' next weekend. I suspect they are lying to me either because they don't want to socialise with me or because they prefer to be doing something more ''Important''.

I just want to know how often any of you may have done this? Let's get really honest. s

Daisy I do agree with you that 'sorry, I'm busy' is one of the most annoying excuses/lies that I have ever heard. It is a modern phenomenon and just means they don't want to do whatever is suggested. As for socializing, why not make it clear from the start that its not something that one wants to do on a regular basis? What's wrong with the truth?
Why is it that people text saying they will get back later and never do? This is an old lie for business or leisure and really means 'never'. Better to not text at all.
People seem to have forgotten the old maxim 'Honesty is the best policy'.

I've only ever (and still do) use "
I'm busy"
if I'm actually busy.

I would never use this as an excuse, and throughout the years, I know I've missed some great times, just because I was really 'busy' at the time.

Perhaps a lesson to us all ... stop being so 'busy' with something that will probably get done tomorrow anyhow and get out, see folks and enjoy life!

What do people gain from lying? besides losing: your respect, your dignity, your reputation, and those who love you. I those those few minutes of satisfaction, smiling behind your lies, are soon well worth a lifetime of a regretful guilty conscience. Without self-respect there can be no genuine success. Success won at the cost of self-respect is not success but does anyone ever think like this.... well yes unless your a liar.

None of us are perfect, we have all told a little white lie at some time in our lives, but I would suggest that it's the one's who tell the big porky pies that haven't got a conscience let alone a guilty one ::

Because lies are very powerful tools used by manipulative people to get what they want;
and unless and until the lie is exposed for what it is, in a way that proves the innocence of the target of the lie, the lie will continue to be spread through rumor and fear. Often, the target gets shunned and reviled, while the liar sits back and laughs. The victim gets trapped into a corner and seems to have no way to really defend himself/herself without looking as bad as the liar. sometimes because the liar looks harmless and of course hides the lie under a few truths, so people are inclined to believe them. Remind of Satan! I hate lies. It's very tempting to hate the liar. After all, which of us has not been the victim of a liar? Few of us I bet. As long as no one is interested or interested in the truth, then they will begin to believe it. It simply means that they don't care what the truth is, and you can believe whatever you want to believe. There is a whole group of people who love to lie to each other and to encourage the lies. They tell them whenever they can and fight with anyone who disagrees with them.....they are called conservatives. These people do not care what the truth is. They love the stuff that they make up. s
