PostSubject: ADAC....broken down!, dont bother!   Sat Jun 28, 2014 6:15 pm

Well, we joined ADAC a few days before I left the UK again, just in case, I always meant to as I had seen people say they used it.

Joined up, they spoke great English and very clear that they would repatriate the van if it broke down, or take to were I was going anywhere in europe even with a van, even with a 12 year old van, no age problems

So I broke down today.....phoned them up, they came out, they refuse any travel other than to Iveco garage as its not worth it!, the value of the van is less than the cost of travel, the van is only worth 2 maybe 3000 euros apparently

So, Im parked at the Iveco dealer, waiting for Monday.....

On Monday I can find out a cost to repair, and a cost for travel to Bulgaria for it

So....on Monday I see howw much it costs, and probably will end up fitting a cambelt to see if it has destroyed my valves.....I think it will run...enough to drive to BG I dont realy care if it rattles ,repair in BG will cost far less as I know of an Engine I can fit myself if needed for 300 lev just down the road from me there

I will find out on Monday, when I phone green flag back to find out exact cost to tow it, and Iveco dealer price for repair....

They say I can have a hire car free for 6 days, as long as I have a northern european credit card with 1000 euros available in my name, I dont have a personal credit card only company one with no name, I can claim upto 85 euros per night for 1, maybe 2 nights per person for 2 people for hotel while I wait

Does anyone know of a towtruck drive that can move a 3.5 ton van , in Bulgaria or who I can hire to come and get it and take it back , It has to less from Bulgaria, everyone is always driving caars back on lorrys,

does anyone have any contacts!, or Ideas,

I cant leave it even as its full of stuff , if I could get a van to move things from it for me I would just scrap it? , anyone got a half empty 3.5ton van that can go here and back to Bulgaria....

Realy wouldnt bother with ADAC though!

Im in Germany, Wurzburg just off the A3 ,

I have heard the engine will be knackered f the belt has gone....but i think it will probably work still , just be low on power and rattle! , maybe a plan if the Iveco dealer will sell me a belt as I have tools with me , got to see how much they will fix it for in the morning and see what options then

I will see if they will do a cheapo repair to just fix the belt and not the whole engine and let me sign something to say its all my fault if it doesnt work!

Prices of engines at a scrap yard on ebay here in Germany seem to be 2000 euros in germany £400 in UK , 300lev in Bg

t&
c from adac says they should tow it there, but he is using a clause of it being a total loss , as its unrepairable due to cost of repair being greater than the van value,

threats of many forum posts will be issued tomorrow, it may change things....

I have asked a couple of UK BG movers who say they can move vehicals if they can move it, but no reply yet as only sent message yesterday

If I could find someone to take the things from in it to BG I would just scrap it , but Iam moving last lot over I have things in the van, not that much but I cant just dump it, no problem dumping the van though!

Cant think of anything else!

Thanks for the help

I got through to Ken Taggerty last night, and he said he will come and get us and the things from inside the van, its the things in the van I want, also with me I have my mum....nearly 80 years old......shes used to driving all over the place in vans but worrying about how to move isnt good....less stress the better!

I have given up on the van for now as its absurd cost to move or repair it , apparently its legal parked here as long as taxed and insured, and not in country more than 90 days....so for now its here in Germany

Right I see. Burgas is quote a way from us we went there last year for a break. It was nice to get away, will try to do the same this year but will go to Varna only two hours drive for us. Glad all is ok with you and hope Mum is doing well.
